From the Cockpit
BY GERRY YARRISH
Smokin’ Electrics!
Now we all know that you should never see smoke coming from an electric-powered
airplane—this can only mean bad things! Well, that’s true if the smoke comes from your
LiPo battery pack! Where there’s smoke, there’s fire … sooner or later. But if you want to
make your aerobatic routines catch fire in a positive way, then you’ll want to check out
John Glezellis’ how-to article on installing
wingtip-mounted smoke cartridges to your
electric aerobat. John did just this when we
were shooting his fourth DVD in the series,
Freestyle Aerobatics Made Easy (available
at AirAgeStore.com), and it certainly added a
new layer of excitement as he flew his E-flite
Carbon-Z Yak 54. John has refined his setup
even more with an on-board ignition system
that you can trigger in flight with your radio.
If you want to experience “Smoke on!”
aerobatics with your E-powered performer,
check out John’s “Aerobatics Made Easy”
column in this issue.
Custom Colors
Also in this issue, our Senior West Coast
Editor John Reid shows you how to make
the new Proud Bird NMPRA EF1 racer from
Great Planes truly your own with some tips
and tricks to make it stand out. ;is 100mph electric pylon racer is hard enough to pick out
of the crowd as it rips around the race course, but you can increase its visibility with simple
graphic design changes.
