Preventing
Lost Parts
It happens all the time. You’re at the flying field
and you’re wrenching on your airplane and that
important small screw or nut falls into the grass and
is forever lost. A great way to prevent the following
“treasure hunt” is to place a light-colored towel
under your model to catch the parts. ;is works even
better than a shallow tray, as parts often bounce
when they hit the tray’s hard surface.
Kicker Instant Glue
Of course, one of the greatest timesavers to ever enter the hobby
scene has to be Zap CA glue. Countless models have been built using
Pacer’s Zap glue. It seems that only in America, RC airplane builders
need an accelerator to further speed the cure time of instant glue. For
builders, Zap glue paired up with Pacer’s Zip
Kicker is a match made in heaven.
Covering Repairs
Have a hole or tear in your model’s covering? A quick and easy fix at
the field can save your day of flying. Make sure you have a roll of clear
packaging tape in your flight box. No need to remove the old covering and
apply new. Just clean your model, apply a small piece of tape, smooth it
into place, and you’re good to go.
Plans and
Instructions
;is trick is an oldie but definitely a goodie.
Whether you are building a kit or are
assembling an ARF model, the first thing you
should do is become completely familiar with
the manufacturer’s instructions or assembly
manual. If you build something incorrectly, it
will cost a lot of time to fix it. Something like
reversed controls could cause a crash and
cost you the entire airplane. Another thing to
remember when building a kit is to cover your
model’s plans with a clear plastic such as “Plan
Protector” from Great Planes. ;is material
prevents any glue from bonding your model
parts to the paper and work surface. You are
also able to save your plans in case you need to
make a repair later on. ;
